The Schoolhouse

Who are we?

It’s Happening!

United by a shared passion for their hometown, the Schoolhouse Advisory Board Team and the Genesis Corporation are proud to announce the ongoing progress of the Pitcairn Schoolhouse restoration at 582 6th Street. What was once a dream is now becoming a reality.

The Genesis Corporation, a non-profit community development organization founded in 2017 by life-long Pitcairn residents, has partnered with the James R. Fox Pitcairn Historical Society and the Pitcairn High School Alumni Association to breathe new life into this historic treasure. The Schoolhouse, originally opened in 1896, is being carefully restored to reflect its original beauty—both inside and out.

With the exterior 90% complete, attention is now turning to the interior, where restoration efforts are underway to recreate the charm and character of the building’s earliest days. Every detail is being thoughtfully considered to preserve the Schoolhouse’s historic integrity while preparing it to serve the modern needs of the community.

Once completed, the restored Schoolhouse will become a vibrant multi-purpose community center, offering:

Educational programs in arts, technology, and life skills

After-school activities for children and teens

Community meeting spaces and cultural events

A dedicated classroom transformed into the James R. Fox Pitcairn Historical Society Museum

A local history library and reading room to promote learning and engagement

This project is more than a building—it’s a commitment to the future of Pitcairn. It represents an investment in community, education, and cultural preservation that will benefit generations to come.

The Genesis Corporation and its partners are actively working to raise funds for the interior restoration. Every donation brings us one step closer to opening the doors of this iconic building once again.
